Great tool alternative to OpenAI site. Love the fact it sources the answers it provides and the follow up questions to better define the requests. UI could be improved, as it’s still a bit crowded and not super intuitive.
Among the many AI search products, we are particularly grateful to Perplexity for providing us with countless inspirations. We don’t aim to replace Perplexity, just as Perplexity isn’t intended to replace Google. While it excels at delivering quick answers, our focus is on creating an enjoyable experience that fosters knowledge discovery and a holistic understanding. We believe that by integrating structured thinking into the process of satisfying human curiosity, we can help people reach new heights in their cognitive journeys.
Perplexity is my go-to for all kinds of info cravings—I use it every day without fail. What really hooks me is how genuine it feels; it drops links to where it snags its facts from, so I can dig into the details myself.
Best AI for citing sources, giving you confidence in the answers
At the moment, this is my favourite AI tool. As someone who works at an AI company, I've learned to see through a lot of the empty hype behind many so-called AI tools. Perplexity isn't one of them. With its ability to provide sources to its answer, this has been steadily replacing Google as my main method of information search. Since it's AI, you can ask pretty open-ended questions and get decent answers. I've only seen it hallucinate a few times, and even then, it's on you to double-check the veracity of its answers with the sources it provides. It's a perfect tool in my eyes and it's only going to get better.
Perplexity is like Google, ChatGPT, and a research assistant all rolled into one. I’ve been using it daily, and it’s completely changed how I search for information. Instead of a wall of links, it gives clear, sourced answers in seconds – and actually cites where the info comes from (huge win). It’s fast, accurate, and feels more conversational than traditional search engines. Whether I’m researching a new topic, brainstorming content, or just curious about something random, Perplexity gets me there faster. Bonus points for how clean and minimal the UI is. Still early days, but this is 100% staying in my daily workflow.
I've been always contemplating the new traffic distribution scenarios and rules in the AI era future, now with search engine giants like Google already dominating the landscape. I've wondered if traditional search scenarios can truly be revolutionized by AI technology. After using Perplexity, I'm not convinced it's the final form, but it's a commendable attempt. Most search situations, particularly my own, aren't for a specific descriptive result but rather for expansion and research. In these cases, the dialogue and collaboration with AI to make the search process efficient is crucial. Perplexity has shown me that AI can indeed enhance the search experience by providing a more interactive and dynamic approach. It's not just about finding an answer; it's about engaging with the information and gaining insights that can lead to deeper understanding and innovation. The platform's ability to facilitate this kind of interaction is a significant step forward in the evolution of search technology. However, on the flip side, AI also needs to address the issue of "hallucinations," where it provides incorrect answers due to its limitations in knowledge compared to a computer's database. For us, who don't have access to the vast knowledge base that AI systems do, it's imperative that the information provided is accurate and reliable. Perplexity seems to be making strides in this area, but there's still work to be done to ensure that the AI's responses are grounded in verifiable facts and not just probabilistic outputs. While Perplexity may not have all the answers, it's a promising step towards a more interactive and intelligent search experience. It's a platform that acknowledges the need for AI to not only provide answers but also to engage in a dialogue with users, helping them to explore and discover in a way that traditional search engines cannot.
Perplexity: The Smartest Assistant with Incredible Voice Features and Citations! Perplexity is a next-level tool that stands out in the crowded AI landscape. Its ability to provide quick, accurate, and context-aware answers makes it an indispensable assistant for anyone who values clarity and precision. The voice feature is absolutely fantastic! It’s incredibly intuitive and allows for seamless, hands-free interaction. Whether I’m multitasking or need answers on the go, Perplexity’s voice interface delivers with speed and ease, making it feel like a personal assistant is always just a word away. But what truly sets Perplexity apart is its commitment to transparency through detailed citations. Every response is backed up with clear, reliable sources, so you’re never left guessing where the information comes from. This trustworthiness is a breath of fresh air, especially in a time when accurate information is more important than ever. Perplexity has redefined how I research, learn, and get things done. It’s smart, reliable, and genuinely makes my life easier. I can’t recommend it enough—five stars all the way!
Been using it since early April 2023. Incredibly fast, and finding it indispensable for finding and summarizing answers (with sources) to questions requiring "current" knowledge. The sources provide not only some credibility, but offer jumping off points for further drilldowns. I still pay for ChatGPT Plus, as the uses cases are quite different: ChatGPT is better at answering more general knowledge-based questions; it is extensively knowledgeable with training data through 2021, and possesses incredible reasoning abilities. Perplexity is more of a "search engine on steroids" (or an "answer engine" as they put it), so more adept at getting current, up-to-date information with top sources it retrieves from the web real-time. It's what Google aspires to eventually, and Bing AI tries to do but is quite inferior in terms of speed, quality of responses, response length, and a host of other aspects... which I find utterly ironic given the relative size of the two companies (not to mention MS' direct investment and partnership with OpenAI). Hats off to Perplexity. I hope they continue to grow and expand.
A wonderful platform. A complete AI Assistant that can completely substitute the "old" search engine. I appreciated very much the power of different projects that can be customized each with different prompt directives, so that the vacation/holiday project can be customized to answer like a travel agent or a local tourist guide; then the Financial project can be customized with answers given by a financial broker and expert and so on. And this approach is potentially disruptive.
I love using Perplexity for the initial research phase of a new topic. It's always good to see links to the sources of information, so I can check them out and dive deeper into the topic. It's especially handy to have an app on your phone that is convenient and quick to use. Thanks to it, my pattern of searching for information on the internet has started to change significantly.
The API is useful, although they continue to have some issues with citations in particular frontends. Once this is resolved, I would love to move all LLMs over to it. Long term, I think it will make much more sense for builders to use LLMs with search integrated rather than having to go through the additional tooling of search API add-ons.
Disrupted my PKM especially the capturing process and mapping a territory of a topic through its interactive and pedagogical style of search. Its an LLM that comes with provenance (links to citations) and has a fanatastic UI and price point compared to OpenAI. It also integrates with WolphramAlpha has is now my default search engine
