Trace

Considered building in-house with LangChain and Temporal (estimated 3-4 eng weeks). Also evaluated Retool Workflows yet it still assumes technical users for anything beyond simple triggers.

We haven't compared Trace to other solutions, just to what we could built ourselves. Obviously we decided to outsource this (i.e. use Trace) and focus on our product instead.

I experimented with Zapier and Make, but they usually expect you to get super detailed from the get-go or handle everything with bots. Trace’s auto-delegate and “break into subtasks” just matches how real teams split up work.

I’ve tried n8n and Gumloop, but Trace lets us pivot between AI and manual work without friction or risk of losing progress, which is essential for compliance-heavy tasks that we do (I am in financial audit).

i also use zapier for simple webhook automations, but trace is just more transparent about what’s automated and what’s not. easier to pick up and tweak as you go

I’ve been testing Trace for a few weeks, and it’s one of the most practical automation tools I’ve used. The hybrid human + AI approach makes a huge difference, instead of blindly automating everything, Trace helps identify what should be automated and keeps humans in the loop for the rest. We connected it to our existing tools like Slack and Notion, and within minutes, Trace started mapping real workflows and finding optimisation opportunities we’d completely overlooked. It feels less like a bot and more like an intelligent teammate that understands how your company actually operates. Excited to see how the platform evolves.

You can directly turn your rough ideas into an initial workflow. The difficulty often lies in organizing your thoughts into a logical and structured process, but trace effectively solves this problem.

The hybrid approach makes it a much more reliable and useful tool than an A.I only approach. Trace helped me identify (or more accurate prove) areas which we can safetly automate and break apart tasks that usually end up being too difficult/time consuming for one person to do.
